Venom

From the official trailers so far, we can see that Venom will be one of the main villains in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. If you’ve played Insomniac’s first Marvel’s Spider-Man, you may recall the post-credit scene of Norman Osborn visiting his son, Harry Osborn. Harry is floating in a tank while being treated by a black substance, the Venom symbiote, due to Harry’s Oshtoran Syndrome. There was a similar post-credit scene in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales in which Harry wakes up to find the substance attached to himself.

Venom will certainly be an interesting antagonist for Spider-Man’s second outing given that all evidence points to Harry Osborn, his childhood friend being the man behind the gloopy mask. Traditionally, Venom has been portrayed by Eddie Brock, a reporter for The Daily Bugle and Peter’s archenemy. But that doesn’t seem to be the path Insomniac Games is taking, with the developer confirming Eddie Brock won’t be Venom during Summer Game Fest 2023.

Kraven

Kraven is finally arriving in Insomniac’s version of New York, as revealed by the gameplay reveal trailer. Known as Kraven the Hunter, he’s a ruthless trophy hunter looking to find the biggest hunt of his career, and with the various superheroes and villains plaguing New York, it’s no surprise that he’s heading to Peter and Miles’ home turf for his ultimate hunt.

Lizard

Dr. Curt Connors, better known as his alter-ego Lizard, is a villain that has been a pain for Spider-Man since his debut in the comics. After losing his arm, Connors was fascinated with reptiles that could grow new limbs after losing them, with Connors creating a reptilian serum that could help amputees regain their lost limbs.

However, the serum had the unfortunate side effect of turning Dr. Curt Connors into a reptilian humanoid. While Peter Parker has been able to cure Connors numerous times, the Lizard frequently returns, and in Insomniac’s version, he seems to be getting bigger every time he sheds his skin.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 villains: Norman Osborn with his hand on Harry's shoulder. The symbiote can be seen in a tank behind them.

Norman Osborn

Norman Osborn was a key character in the first game, manipulating others and harboring secrets about Oscorp, in spite of his position as the Mayor of New York City. Having hired Sable International to protect himself and Oscorp, Norman is partly responsible for all the chaos that ensued, particularly with Otto, better known as Doc Ock.

It’s evident that Norman is back up to his machinations, having been searching for a cure for his terminally-ill son and coming across the symbiote. In fact, we could even see Norman transform into the iconic Green Goblin, turning the dial up even further.

Wraith

While technically not a villain, Wraith – the vigilante persona of police captain Yuri Watanabe – often dispenses justice with great cost. As more of an anti-hero, it’s possible Peter and/or Miles will run into ideological conflicts with Wraith, despite both wanting to put an end to the destruction and corruption of NYC.

Rumored Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 villains

Right now, one main suspected villain, besides Norman Osborn as Green Goblin, is Kingpin. The game is primed for a Kingpin comeback, which wouldn’t be too surprising as he is a core villain of the series. He served as one of the main antagonists of the first game and, chances are, he’s back to cause chaos once again.

That’s everything we know about the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 villains right now. Venom is sure to provide interesting opposition to Peter, weaving into the story and narrative in interesting ways, beyond just being a villain for him to chase down. As such, it could just be one of the best PS5 games once it releases. If you just can’t get enough of Spider-Man, why not check out the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 characters who will ally themselves with Peter, rather than try to end his crime-fighting behavior for good?
