MW3 Verdansk return teased in spine-tingling Makarov reveal trailer

A new Modern Warfare 3 trailer casts a light on COD villain Makarov, but it appears that iconic Warzone map Verdansk is making a overdue return in MW3.

Your first look at Modern Warfare 3‘s Makarov is here, as the chilling COD villain steps up to challenge Task Force 141. While the new look at MW3 sets up the return of the classic Call of Duty baddie, developer Sledgehammer Games could be taking us back to familiar land from WarzoneVerdansk in MW3 may just be on the cards.

With the Modern Warfare 3 release date confirmed and the full MW3 reveal on the way, you need to feast your eyes on the new Makarov reveal trailer. Specifically, if you head over to 1:14 (which we’ve done for you below), you can see the fiery remnants of a soccer stadium. Though it could be dismissed as any ordinary sports arena, the stadium’s signage is exactly the same as the location seen in Verdansk.

The Verdansk Sparks are the official team of the beloved battle royale map. It is certainly possible that we could be another stadium under the team’s ownership, but it seems too deliberate to include, as fans have long-awaited the map’s return.

At present, Verdansk can only be experienced in Call of Duty Mobile, while Warzone houses Al Mazrah/Ashika Island/Vondel.

With the sunsetting of the original Warzone title, which included Fortune’s Keep and Caldera, the fate of Verdansk has been up in the air for quite some time. We already know that NBA players have sampled MW3’s Warzone iteration, and it could well be the battlefields of Verdansk that they’ve fought it out in.

For those of you not so hot on Call of Duty’s battle royale spin-off, Verdansk was the first ever map that Warzone deployed. Enjoyed by millions the world over, Verdansk evolved over time, similar to how Fortnite tweaks the island.

Notable updates include the 80s variant of Verdansk that emerged with Black Ops Cold War. We even got a 80s Action Heroes event too, as Die Hard’s John McClane and First Blood’s John Rambo dropped in for a fight. The lore to get to the 80s period from modern day is complicated. After all, Warzone did its map overrun by zombies before it was nuked.
