The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom vehicles

Get an overview of what you are able to pilot and drive, as you craft and put together your own The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom vehicles on Switch.

The Legend of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom Vehicles: Link can be seen piloting a vehicle

With Breath of the Wild’s Champions Ballad DLC, we finally saw the introduction of ridable vehicles to the Zelda universe, with players zooming across Hyrule on the Master Cycle Zero. And it won’t stop there, with a selection of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom vehicles as well as the vehicle crafting system available in the sequel.

In this article, we’ll cover all of the different vehicles you can use in the game. They are key to exploring the vast landscapes in the game and oftentimes an absolute blast to use in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

Car

Not really a car in the real-life sense of the word, this is a pretty sizeable four-wheeled vehicle with a podium up front for Link to steer with. It features a large wooden chassis with two large back wheels, some stone heads covering the front wheels, two headlights, and what appears to be the car’s power source at the back of the vehicle.

Hot-air Balloon

We only get a small glimpse of the hot-air balloon, so it’s difficult to make out many details. It features a small platform for Link to stand on, and a balloon above, which appears to be powered by a small power source, just like the car, and will allow players to fly.

Flying Machine

The flying machine consists of a metal platform with four propellers attached to the sides of it. Like the car, there is a small podium at the front allowing Link to pilot the machine through the sky. Based on footage of the machine, it appears to be a way for Link to travel between the game’s many sky islands.

Boat

This boat or a raft is the aforementioned vehicle shown off in the gameplay demonstration. It features three logs stuck together, with two propellers attached to the back of the boat. The logs are naturally buoyant and can float on water, and hitting the propellers sends the boat forward.

Flying Raft

This vehicle shows off the possibilities available to players more clearly than the other vehicles. It appears similar to the rafts present in Breath of the Wild which must be propelled with wind or a Korok Leaf. It has a small, wooden raft, with a sail in the middle to allow wind to propel it. It also features four propellers on the corners, which when activated, allow the raft to begin flying.

Making the most of Link’s surroundings by crafting and fusing useful vehicles and objects appears to be a core mechanic of the gameplay for Tears of the Kingdom, and given the size and scope of the game’s world, these vehicles are sure to play a big role in how players will choose to explore the map.

How to build vehicles in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

One of Link’s new abilities, Ultrahand, allows Link to pick up objects, similar to Magnesis, and stick them together, thereby allowing him to build vehicles. In the demonstration, it’s shown that because logs can float on water, they can be stuck together to form a raft. This ability allows you to build a variety of vehicles in the game.

Link can then attach some propellers to it to act as an engine, letting players propel their makeshift boat across water simply by hitting them.
These propellers appear to have a battery system which drains power over time, similar to Link’s stamina wheel and means players probably will not be able to use them indefinitely. While these vehicles won’t be available from the start of the game, Aonuma stated that players will find different objects that can be used to craft vehicles all over the map and that there will be plenty of possibilities provided to players to use their imaginations.

With the vehicles and loads of new The Legend of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom characters, the game is one of the best Switch games available.
