And, with experience with the franchise and a wider cast of Spider-Man 2 villains to choose from you should expect a much more ambitious game than we have seen from Insomniac so far.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release date
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s release date is set for Friday, October 20, 2023, as announced during the Summer Game Fest 2023 stream. Unfortunately for PS4 players, the game will release as a PS5 exclusive.
In October last year, Insomniac reiterated that the game was still on track for 2023 for PS5, despite having shown next to nothing about the game. So, it is great to see it hit that date and alleviate some concerns from Spidey fans. While the game won’t be available on PS4, it may appear on PC in a few years, with both of Insomniac’s Spider-Man games releasing on PC in 2022.
Starting on June 16, 2023, you can make your Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 pre-orders, including an incredible-looking Collector’s Edition for die-hard fans of the Insomniac Games series.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 story
The first cinematic footage of this game was at Sony’s PlayStation Showcase in September 2022. It gave us a first look at both Miles Morales and Peter Parker, alongside a first look at Venom in Insomniac Games’ universe.
At the time, many were wondering who was narrating this original trailer. We predicted that it was Kraven the Hunter, and at the PlayStation Showcase 2023 trailer, we were proven right!
Ahead of the new game’s release, a Spider-Man 2 prequel comic has also been launched which will follow the events of Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and MJ Watson in between the last game and the upcoming Spider-Man 2. They will take down a new threat together before seeing what awaits them with Venom and the other Spider-Man 2 villains in the sequel later this year.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay
The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay showed off a brand new wingsuit for Miles and a Venom-infused suit for Peter, confirming that you will switch between them during the story. We got to see some of Kraven’s goons, the ability to deploy rope lines to use, as well as a number of Symbiote-infused powers for Peter.
The trailer also showed off a stunning set piece with The Lizard as we jumped between jet skis, boats, and swung over the water. The ability to perform finishers on the vehicle and to use the vehicles on the water is also a new addition, with it not being used much in the first game.
