NBA 2K24 MyTeam: Sam Herro

If collecting digital card-based versions of your favourite basketball players, before pitting them against other players is up your street, then the NBA 2K24 MyTeam mode is the perfect place to bring the likes of Jokic and Jordan together on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.

While we don’t expect MyTeam to look massively different from the iterations seen in previous years when the NBA 2K24 release date rolls around, developer 2K is set to sprinkle in some new ways to enjoy the sports game’s gacha-infused mode. Read on to find out more about how NBA 2K24 MyTeam is shaping up before you consider getting your NBA 2K24 pre-orders in.

NBA 2K24 MyTeam explained

NBA 2K24 MyTeam is a core mode in pretty much all NBA 2K games, and allows players to build their own unique team composed of NBA players from across the years. You can then compete against players online, across a number of sub-game modes.

While exact details surrounding this year’s MyTeam are currently thin, we’re confident that its core mechanics will remain the same – players can be accrued either through opening packs, the Auction House, or NBA 2K24 Locker Codes, assembled into a dream line-up, and then taken into one of a multitude of online or offline modes. The team’s franchise and appearance can be customized, allowing you to stand out from the crowd.

The MyTeam formula hasn’t changed in years, and we certainly don’t expect it to change anytime soon. It’s clear that – like the EA FC 24 Ultimate Team mode and other gacha-based systems – it’s incredibly lucrative, and 2K isn’t about to fix what isn’t broken.

NBA 2K24 MyTeam new mode

The PlayStation Store listing for NBA 2K24 reveals that there is an “all-new salary cap mode” coming to the game’s MyTeam mode. As the MyTeam season wears on, players eventually get to a point where their teams are so monstrously overpowered that the value of anything but the very best cards becomes the sum total of zero – besides being used for clearing Collections, of course.

While we don’t believe that the new mode should or would replace Unlimited, it will certainly offer players who haven’t quite reached those lofty heights a means to remain competitive – but how?

Well, by giving players a budget, with each player tier having a corresponding value, you won’t be able to load up on top level ballers in every position. This will then push you to build a far more varied team, which we believe will improve the versatility of the MyTeam meta, providing a more enriching experience long-term.

Should you play NBA 2K24 MyTeam?

If you have the patience to play with little-to-no investment of your actual money, or have the means to invest but responsibly, then you absolutely should give NBA 2K24 MyTeam a go.

Pulling your favorite player from a pack, or being able to triple double someone using some of the most legendary stars to grace the NBA is a truly fantastic feeling. Yet, while this all sounds like great news for your dopamine receptors, the journey of getting to that point is far less glamorous.

As with any loot box/gacha-based system, luck will ultimately decide how far you get without much investment early on. Such systems are built to encourage spending real-world currency on Virtual Currency (VC), though earned currency – MyTeam Coins (MT) – will ensure you have a steady trickle of packs.

Additionally, once you’ve earned enough MT, you’ll be able to bid against others on the Auction House, which for free-to-play players will become the most important source of top-tier cards.

And that’s all you need to know about the NBA 2K24 MyTeam mode. Whether you choose to invest your time (and money) into the mode, or keep it casual with the NBA 2K24 MyCareer mode, we’ve got your content needs covered. In the meantime, be sure to swot up on NBA 2K24 crossplay, as well as whether or not you’ll see NBA 2K24 early access materialize. See you on the court.
