If you’re hoping to take your personalized player from the bench to NBA stardom, then the NBA 2K24 MyCareer mode will be where you’ll need to sink most of your time. However, this mode could be very different depending on whether you’re playing the past or current-gen version of the game.

Ahead of the NBA 2K24 release date, we’ve got an idea of what MyCareer will entail, especially considering it’s the same most years. However, if you want to know more about the features of the standard mode in this year’s release before you put in your NBA 2K24 pre-orders, here’s what you need to know.

NBA 2K24 MyCareer explained

NBA 2K24 MyCareer is basically the story experience, where your player (aptly titled MyPlayer) will go from being drafted for a team to a Hall of Famer. MyCareer is a standard mode for pretty much all NBA 2K games.

While exact details for 2K24’s version of MyCareer have yet to be revealed, we expect it to remain mostly the same as last year’s MyCareer. You’ll work your way up from being an amateur all the way to playing with some of the biggest A-listers in the NBA.

When going through the NBA 2K24 MyPlayer creation process, if its anything like NBA 2K23 (which it will, let’s be honest), you’ll select your characters’ build which will affect their ratings and attributes, so you’ll want to create your character based on your preferences. The MyCareer mode is said to be using an updated Badge system for this year’s entry, as well as a revamped player builder too.

Additionally, 2K has announced that NBA 2K24 MyCareer will be “streamlined so you can put the focus on your game”, seemingly in response to fan criticism of last year’s iteration.

NBA 2K24 MyCareer location

The location for NBA 2K24 differs depending on whether you play the past-gen or current-gen version of the game. This is because the location for MyCareer on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is set in a new city with a tropical backdrop, whereas the PS4 and Xbox One (and more than likely the PC) versions of the game will be in a neighborhood.

The most interesting addition to the MyCareer mode for NBA 2K24 lies in the fact that NBA 2K24 will feature side-quests, completely optional side content. What that offers is hard to say, but we expect this to allow you to grow and feel a part of the community in the MyCareer hub.

Should you play NBA 2K24 MyCareer?

Whether you’re a young upcomer looking to eventually make it to the NBA in real life, or an old baller hoping to relive the glory days before that career-ending college knee injury, NBA 2K24 MyCareer is the definitive way to experience the high school-to-NBA pipeline.

Additionally, unlike MyTeam, MyCareer definitely won’t require any extra investment into the game to maximize the value you get from it. While you won’t quite get to play as Jokic, you will be able to tell your pals you’re better than him – at least in-game.

Whether you decide to spend all of your time in the NBA 2K24 MyCareer mode or if you’re planning to invest hundreds of hours into NBA 2K24 MyTeam mode, we’ve got you covered.
