What are the Call of Duty MW3 maps? The locations you can do battle on are always one of the most fun and exciting reveals of each new release, and each of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 maps is no different. With several leaks already revealing some of the potential locations, as well as speculation based on series history, we already have an idea of the Call of Duty MW3 maps we can expect to see.

With Call of Duty MW3’s maps potentially returning locations from one of the best competitive FPS games of the past, we can’t wait for the MW3 release date. This will let us dive into everything the game has to offer, including the Call of Duty MW3 multiplayer maps, modes, and all the new features on the way. While MW2 (2022) has become rather dry in the eyes of many in the community, Modern Warfare 3 is just what we need right now.

Call of Duty MW3 maps leaks

The Call of Duty MW3 maps so far are:

  • Terminal – remastered from Modern Warfare 2
  • Scrapyard – remastered from Modern Warfare 2

While we can undoubtedly expect several brand-new maps in Modern Warfare 3, as every Call of Duty entry does, leaks have suggested that we will see remastered MW2 (2009), including Terminal and Scrapyard. We’re yet to hear any news on any of the new maps, but we expect to see a similar number to MW2’s launch variety, which had 12 maps across standard and Ground War modes.

Given Modern Warfare 3 was originally an expansion to MW2 (2022), as reported by Jason Schreier, we could even see all the maps released so far ported into MW3. With MW2 Season 5 adding five new maps to the game, including a remake of Strike from Call of Duty 4, it would be a shame to leave these maps behind so soon. Since MW3 will be running on the same engine and was originally an expansion, rather than a standalone game, it’s certainly a possibility.

As for the leaked remastered maps potentially coming to Modern Warfare 3, these came from ‘CoD_Perseus’ and included supposed images of these remastered maps in MW3. While it’s yet to be confirmed by Activision, these are fan-favorite maps and the developers have been introducing more remastered maps throughout the lifespan of the previous entry. This sets a strong precedent for both Terminal and Scrapyard to receive the remaster treatment as MW3 maps.

Nevertheless, it’s certainly odd to see original Modern Warfare 2 maps possibly remade in Modern Warfare 3 (2023) over its reboot namesake. However, given MW3 was reportedly going to be an expansion of the previous game, it supports the idea of more remastered maps from the iconic game. We’re hoping for Favela and Rundown to feature in MW3 2023, though there are plenty of great maps Activision could pick if it is looking for more remastered maps.

In fact, we could also see fan-favorite MW3 maps from the 2011 game make a comeback, such as Resistance and Hardhat. If Activision really wants to give the community a strong nostalgia trip, which certainly works for pulling players in, then a suite of remastered maps from the popular MW2 and MW3 games would do it.

However, with all the changes to the series since the original rendition of these maps, such as new movement systems, weapons, and attachments, these maps will certainly play very differently. Alongside the plethora of new maps we can expect, remastered maps will give us lots of interesting arenas to wage war in.

And that’s everything we currently know about the Call of Duty MW3 maps, including the iconic remastered maps that are likely to make an appearance. In the meantime, why not find out the latest on Call of Duty MW3 Spec Ops or the Call of Duty MW3 characters that could make a return?
