EA Sports FC brushes off FIFA with new brand and content promise

Electronic Arts has finally shared it's new EA Sports FC branding alongside a declaration that this football game will deliver just as much content as FIFA did.

EA Sports FC brand reveal: the new football game logo

It’s been a long time coming, but Electronic Arts is finally starting to talk properly about EA Sports FC; this is going to be the developer’s first football game since it’s partnership with FIFA ended. So, there’s a lot of speculation about what fans can expect without this lucrative partnership lending itself to the game’s name. However, you’ll be pleased to know that it sounds like content, at the very least, isn’t going to be an issue. Oh, and we have a brand new logo for the series too. EA Sports FC is going to feature over 19,000 fully licensed players, around 700 teams across 30 leagues, and even start to expand more into women’s football and the grassroots of the beautiful game.

When you think about the level of content FIFA 23 is offering players, it almost lines up exactly. The current iteration of FIFA presents players with “more than 19,000 players across 700 teams, in more than 100 stadiums and over 30 leagues around the world” – according to this EA blog post. When you consider the fact that this year’s FIFA title has also included the Barclays WSL and Division 1 Arkema, it’s clear that the expansion into Women’s football is something EA has been working on for some time.

What’s interesting about this announcement is that it comes with a new logo, which EA is going to debut in over 100 matches across the biggest leagues in the world from today. Whether you support a Premier League team, a Serie A club, or someone from the WSL or Bundesliga, you’re going to start seeing a lot more of this new EA Sports FC logo.

As explained by EA Sports, the logo itself takes inspiration from the triangular polygons that make up modern games and the triangle selector EA uses to indicate who you’re playing as in their football games. We wish we were making it up, but we’re not. It’s a strange decision, but one that will stick in everyone’s memory – for better or worse. As you can see below, there’s already some merch out in the world with it on.

So, at long last, we know a little bit more about EA Sports FC. It’s going to be an interesting experience, but we can’t imagine the core gameplay and the way EA’s football games work, is going to change too drastically without FIFA’s backing.
