Who is the NHL 24 cover athlete?

With so many incredible players to choose from, the NHL 24 cover athlete position has never been so crowded, so here’s the latest news and speculation.

Who is the NHL 24 cover athlete? One of the most exciting parts of every new NHL release cycle is the reveal of the cover star, highlighting one of the most impressive athletes to grace the front cover and promotional art. Despite EA having been tight-lipped about the topic so far, there’s a number of potential NHL 24 cover athlete stars that could take center-stage.

With over 20 years of games, there’s been lots of different faces claiming the position, but who could take the NHL 24 cover athlete spot next? EA will officially reveal the star of the show before the NHL 24 release date, but that doesn’t stop us and fans alike from making predictions.

Who could the NHL 24 cover athlete be?

The NHL 24 cover athlete has yet to be revealed, though we expect it to be Connor McDavid, captain of the Edmonton Oilers, due to their impressive performance in the NHL currently, having earned himself several awards.

Connor McDavid is our first prediction largely because of his superb performance for the Edmonton Oilers this season, arguably being the best player in the NHL right now. With EA often opting to highlight the best athletes in the sport, Connor McDavid is a likely candidate. What’s more, McDavid has even featured on the cover before with NHL 18. If he were to feature again, he’d be alongside Alexander Ovechkin and Auston Matthews for having multiple cover athlete appearances.

However, Connor McDavid is not the only possible candidate, and there are several other players we think EA Sports could choose to show-off instead.

With the great push for more women’s hockey since NHL 23, Hillary Knight – forward for the Boston Pride team – is another perfect pick. Changing the game with female hockey players over recent years, with Knight being the first female skater to practice with the NHL and having earned the IIHF Female Player of the Year award, she is certainly deserving of the spot. Given her incredible performance, Hillary Knight could very easily be the NHL 24 cover athlete.

In fact, if EA Sports continues the cover style from NHL 23, then we could even see both Connor McDavid and Hilary Knight as the cover athletes. NHL 23 featured both Trevor Zegras and Sarah Nurse as the cover stars of the previous title and it could very well happen again, highlighting a key male and female player.

Another potential cover star athlete is Sidney Crosby. As a three-time Stanley Cup champion for the Pittsburgh Penguins, it’s hard to argue against the raw talent of Crosby. Being one of the greatest and most iconic ice hockey players, it’s strange that he hasn’t ever been a cover star for the series. If EA Sports are aiming to feature an ice hockey legend, then look no further than Crosby. However, it’s possible that Sidney Crosby simply doesn’t want to be featured as the NHL 24 cover star, as it’s hard to imagine that EA hasn’t attempted to do so before given his significance.

While these are the most likely NHL 24 cover athletes, we could also see Auston Matthew grace the cover once again, or even Nathan MacKinnon or Erik Karlsson, as each of these players have had an excellent season. Their performance in the NHL has certainly landed them within reach of the prestigious spot.

Well, that covers all the potential candidates for the NHL 24 cover athlete position. With so many amazing players to choose from, no doubt EA Sports has had a hard time deciding.
