All Starfield companions confirmed so far

Here is every Starfield companion that has been confirmed for the Xbox RPG, which includes loyal robots, avid explorers, and even a space cowboy.

Starfield Companions: a character can be seen

Starfield is set to be one of the biggest games Bethesda Games Studios has ever created, and much like the Fallout games, you will be able to bring a number of Starfield companions along with you to assist you across the solar system. We’ve already learned about the names and backstories of some of these companions, and you can find everything we know so far in this guide.

When the Starfield release date rolls around this year we will see exactly what each companion can truly offer, but already we know that they can provide you with unique skills and buffs for both your personal ship and your outposts. It sounds like a great system that could be one of the major factors in making Starfield one of the best Xbox Series X games yet, and maybe even one of the best RPGs of all time.

Starfield companions list

The seven confirmed Starfield companions are:

  • Barrett – Constellation companion
  • Sam Coe – Constellation companion
  • Sarah Morgan – Constellation companion
  • VASCO – crew member
  • Marika Boros – crew member
  • Heller – crew member
  • Adoring Fan – Hero Worshipped Trait crew member

Companions are core characters that you can recruit to accompany you on foot on your adventure across the galaxy, but can also serve as crew members on your ship or in your outposts. As confirmed in an interview with Todd Howard by Kinda Funny Games, the four main Constellation members are the only companions with bespoke questlines and romance options. The remaining followers are crew members you can recruit for your ship, outposts, and adventuring.

Nevertheless, the main companions have their own storylines to explore, and you can also romance these companions too if you feel a connection, similar to previous Bethesda games. Players will no doubt quickly find their favorite companion for their adventures with the diverse selection.

While very similar to companions, you can also recruit crew members. Crew members can still “help you out in the field”, according to Bethesda, but their main use is to provide additional skills to your ship or your outposts. Again, the main companions like Sarah Morgan also still offer these skills. Crew members are essential companions but without dedicated storylines and romance options. In the above interview with Todd Howard, it was also revealed that you can have a full crew of robots on board your ship, with VASCO alongside other robotic crew members.

Crew members can be found in spaceports throughout the galaxy, or can be encountered while exploring planets. The Starfield Direct below shows you recruiting Marika Boros from a spaceport, while Heller appears to be some kind of injured or lost character you encounter on a desolate planet or moon.

Importantly, you can also play Starfield solo, without any crew members or companions. There will be traits and skills that support players wanting to do solo playthroughs of the game. With that said, hopefully, these are strong enough to compensate for not having any crew or companions, particularly given their importance to the ship and outposts.

Below you can find details on every Starfield companion and crew member that’s been revealed so far, including their companion skills.

Sarah Morgan

Sarah Morgan appears to be one of the most pivotal Starfield characters. She is the head of Constellation, but can also accompany you on your journey. In the 2023 Starfield Direct, she was described as an “ex-soldier and adventurer”. It sounds like she will be both a knowledgeable and strong ally to have with you.

Sarah Morgan skills:

  • Astrodynamics 4
  • Lasers 3
  • Leadership 2
  • Botany 1

Sam Coe

Sam Coe is another member of Constellation. He is described as a “former space cowboy”. Not much else is known about him, but his skills suggest he’s an ace pilot and knows his way around a rifle. It’s likely, but not confirmed, that he has some kind of prior or current connection to the Freestar Collective, the Starfield faction that embodies the space cowboy fantasy.

Sam Coe skills:

  • Piloting 4
  • Rifle Certification 3
  • Payloads 2
  • Geology 2

Barrett

Barrett is another member of Constellation and appears to be more of a field operative. Not much is known about him, but by the character’s own admission during the Starfield Direct, he has “irresistible charm”. His best skill as a companion is also Starship Engineering, so he sounds like someone who could patch up your ship with no problem.

Barrett skills:

  • Starship Engineering 4
  • Particle Beam Weapon Systems 3
  • Robotics 2
  • Gastronomy 1

VASCO

The very first companion to be announced for Starfield was VASCO. The utility robot was revealed in an official video from Bethesda in April 2022 and seems to be a versatile companion. VASCO will act as a support companion mostly, with art showing it repairing a ship. However, it also has in-built weaponry, so it will be handy in a fight as you explore uncharted Starfield planets.

VASCO’s skills are currently unknown.

Marika Boros

Little is currently known about Marika Boros, other than that she’s a crew member that can be hired from The Viewport spaceport. She’s also capable with ballistics, so she could be a helpful supporting crew member.

Marika Boros skills:

  • Ballistics 2
  • Shotgun Certification 1
  • Particle Beam Weapon Systems 1

Starfield companions: Heller looking up at the player. His skills are displayed to the right.

Heller

Heller is another crew member we currently know little about. From the Starfield Direct, it looks as though he is recruited via exploring since he appears to be stranded on a planet. However, with a high Outpost Engineering stat, Heller will make for a great crew member for your outposts.

Heller skills:

  • Outpost Engineering 3
  • Geology 1

Starfield companions: The Adoring Fan talking to the player. Their skills are displayed to the right.

Adoring Fan

The Adoring Fan is a unique crew member acquired through choosing the Hero Worshipped trait during Starfield character creation. You might recognize this highly obsessive character from The Elder Scrolls Oblivion, and he makes a return to shower you with compliments once more. According to the description of the trait, the Adoring Fan will also give you gifts occasionally. The Adoring Fan can be a crew member and can journey alongside you – if you can put up with their incessant jabbering for long enough.

Adoring Fan skills:

  • Weight Lifting 2
  • Scavenging 1
  • Concealment 1

That covers all the Starfield companions we know about right now. We’re sure that there will be more companions when the game finally launches though.
