Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date window
The Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date is expected to be early 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, based on a social media post by Larian’s director of publishing Michael Douse.
In this post, Michael Douse stated that the reason for the delay on Xbox Series X|S release is “a technical hurdle”. The studio has been having difficulty in getting the seamless Baldur’s Gate 3 split-screen co-op to run on the weaker Series S console.
Douse went on to say, however, that Larian “cannot remove the split-screen feature because we are obliged to launch with feature parity, and so [we will] continue to try and make it work.” This relates to Microsoft’s guidelines that games require feature-parity between Xbox Series X and Series S releases. Therefore, the issue of local co-op must be resolved before it can be released on either system.
The good news though is that Douse also stated that Larian Studios should have an update for players “by the end of the year [2023]”. This places the Xbox Series X|S release date at the end of 2023 or, more likely, early 2024. When it does eventually release, the Baldur’s Gate 3 console version is primed for success given the great launch on PC.
This does mean, however, that it will not release alongside Baldur’s Gate 3 for PS5, PC, Mac, and GeForce NOW. In a statement with IGN, Larian Studios clarified that it has “no exclusivity” in terms of which platforms Baldur’s Gate 3 will release on, so a late Xbox release is only due to the technical hurdles the studio has encountered. This sentiment was echoed by Douse as well, solidifying Larian’s position on the situation.

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to Xbox One?
No, Larian has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be coming to Xbox One because the console isn’t able to run the game. In an interview with Eurogamer, executive producer David Walgrave states that, “There’s a lot of technical upgrades and updates that we did to our engine, and I don’t know if it would be capable of being able to actually run on [past generation consoles]”.
Given the ongoing issues with split-screen co-op on Xbox Series S, it’s no surprise that an Xbox One release of BG3 is not in the works.
