Rúben Dias has consistently been hailed as one of the Premier League’s biggest stars, and has gone from being rated as the best CB in the league, to the best in the world by a number of fellow pros this season. Though we’ve kept him as an 88 overall for now, we wouldn’t be surprised if EA bumped him up after his treble-winning season with Manchester City.
While Liverpool as a whole struggled to make an impact in the Prem last season, this fall from grace was perhaps epitomized best by the drop in form of the previously un-droppable Virgil van Dijk. Once considered the best CB in world soccer, we expect a fairly hefty downgrade from his previous 90 overall rating, putting him in line with Marquinhos. While arguments can be made that the likes of Alaba, Rüdiger, and de Ligt were all better than van Dijk last season, we can’t see EA dropping the Dutchman any further.
Most players approaching their 40s would most likely have moved away from top level football, yet Thiago Silva continues to not only prove why he’s a starter for Chelsea, but why he’s still one of the best CBs in the world. Though, like Liverpool, Chelsea had a bit of a howler last season, the Brazilian remained a bright spark to the extent that we’d find it hard to downgrade him.
In the 85 overall category we have Aymeric Laporte, who we’ve knocked down one rating point after a season mostly spent on City’s bench. Conversely, Éder Militão netted himself a TOTS card after a great season at the Bernabeu, meriting a one point bump up for FC 24. Niklas Süle, meanwhile, enjoyed another solid year in the Bundesliga, despite narrowly missing out on the title with Dortmund.
